Final BCS Standings, Bowl Game Predictions, & Heisman Leaders
Well the final college football games of the regular season have come and gone and we are ready to get all the bowl games started. There is some controversy now as to who should play undefeated LSU in the BCS National Championship Game, between the Alabama Crimson Tide or the Oklahoma State Cowboys. As you recall, Alabama lost to LSU back in early November, at home 9-6 in overtime. That was the Crimson Tide’s only loss. Oklahoma State lost in mid November to Iowa State 37-31 in double overtime on the same day they lost the head women’s basketball coach and his assistant in a plane crash. I think each loss speaks for itself. Many people do not want to see another LSU vs Alabama game, especially for the national title. Also, what would it say if Alabama does beat LSU in the title game? That would mean they beat each other once during the year, and I’ve heard some fans would call LSU co-champs for splitting with Alabama. Could you imagine the controversy if we get an LSU vs Alabama rematch in the National Title game? By comparison, Alabama has beaten two top 25 teams this season, Oklahoma State has beaten five. What else does that say? Oklahoma State just knocked off in state rivals #10 Oklahoma 44-10. Oklahoma State clinched the BIG 12 Title with that victory, and Alabama didn’t even play for their conferences championship. How can you possibly put a team in the National Title game when they didn’t even play in their conferences title game? LSU and Alabama are two defense oriented teams and they played a defensive battle already. Many people want to see a top offense play LSU and try to score on their top defense, and that’s what Oklahoma State possesses, the number two offense in college football, averaging 49 points per game. Hopefully we’ll get the game we all want.
Also happening last night was the ACC and BIG 10 Championship games. In the BIG 10 title game, #15 Wisconsin knocked off #13 Michigan State 42-39 after Wisconsin was punting the ball away with around 1:50 left on the clock and the Michigan State returner returned the punt inside the five yard line. There was only one problem, a roughing the kicker penalty was called and Wisconsin got the ball back, and ran out the clock with three kneel downs. So Wisconsin clinched a spot on the Rose Bowl against the PAC 12 champs, #9 Oregon, who beat UCLA in the PAC 12 title game on Friday night 49-31. In the ACC Title game, #20 Clemson walloped #5 Virginia Tech 38-10. Clemson clinches a spot in the Orange Bowl against the Big East champion. #6 Houston got embarrassed in the C-USA title game against #24 USM, 49-28, therefore being eliminated from BCS contention. Either #18 TCU, or #24 Southern Mississippi may make it in the BCS if they’re ranked in the top 16 and are ahead of each other and the Big East champion. The BCS is a mess, and it’s time to sort out right here, so here’s my FINAL Top 10 BCS Standings & Bowl Game Predictions & Heisman Leaders.
