Post Week 4 NFL Top 12 Power Rankings
Week 4 of the 2012 NFL season is in the books and that means a quarter of the season is gone. There remains three undefeated teams and those teams are the Houston Texans, Atlanta Falcons, and surprisingly the Arizona Cardinals. There is two winless teams still and they are the Cleveland Browns, and surprisingly the New Orleans Saints. It has been a crazy NFL season so far and we still have three-quarters of the regular season to go.
We had some great games this week, most notably the Green Bay Packers vs New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles vs New York Giants, and Atlanta Falcons vs Carolina Panthers games. Atlanta drove from their own one yard line with under a minute to go to set up a game winning kick by Matt Bryan. Lawrence Tynes missed a potential game winning 54 yard field goal with less than 20 seconds left in Philadelphia after Andy Reid called a timeout just before his first attempt that was wide left and gave Tynes another chance that was short.
Times for the power rankings, enjoy!
1.Houston Texans (4-0) defeated Tennessee Titans 38-14. Last Week (1). The Texans continue to roll on all cylinders. Can anybody beat this team, they have barely any weaknesses.
2.Atlanta Falcons (4-0) defeated Carolina Panthers 30-28. Last Week (2). The Falcons rally to beat the Panthers with under a minute left with a lengthy field goal by Matt Bryant. Matt Ryan and Roddy White went crazy on offense together. Best team in the NFC? I think so.
3.San Francisco 49ers (3-1) defeated New York Jets 34-0. Last Week (4). The 49ers bombard the Jets on the road and get a great defensive effort a week after their defensive meltdown in Minnesota.
4.Baltimore Ravens (3-1) defeated Cleveland Browns 23-16. Last Week (5). The Ravens defense takes care of the Browns and staves off a late rally by Brandon Weeden and company. Now they get 10 days off to rest that defense and get healthy.
5.Arizona Cardinals (4-0) defeated Miami Dolphins 24-21 (OT). Last Week (6). The Cardinals are undefeated and lead the NFC West! Who would’ve thought that would happen four weeks into the season? Well it’s happening and you better watch out for this defense and improving offense.
6.Green Bay Packers (2-2) defeated New Orleans Saints 28-27. Last Week (7). The Packers avenge their ugly loss last Monday night by holding off a very hungry Saints team still searching for their first win. There is something about this Green Bay team that makes me think they will struggle mightily to win the NFC North.
7.New England Patriots (2-2) defeated Buffalo Bills 52-21. Last Week (8). The Patriots were down 21-7 at halftime and on the verge of starting the season 1-3, but absolutely steamroll the Bills in the second half, 45-0. They’re tied for first in the division now.
8.Chicago Bears (3-1) defeated Dallas Cowboys 34-18. Last Week (10). The Bears pick off Tony Romo five times and return two of them for touchdowns. This defense was very impressive and the offense looked good in the second half. They’re tied for first in the NFC North.
9.Cincinnati Bengals (3-1) defeated Jacksonville Jaguars 27-10. Last Week (9). The Bengals take down the Jaguars easily and are 3-1 and tied for first place in the NFC North with Baltimore. This team is pretty darn good on offense.
10.Minnesota Vikings (3-1) defeated Detroit Lions 20-13. Last Week (12). The Vikings do it again and upset another opponent in their division rivals from Detroit. Their special teams won this game for them thanks to Percy Harvin opening the game with a 105 yard kickoff return touchdown and Marcus Sherels returning a punt 77 yards for a touchdown. The defense locked down Calvin “Megatron” Johnson and the Detroit run game. Other than that, the offense wasn’t too good other than Adrian Peterson rushing for 102 yards.
11.New York Giants (2-2) lost to Philadelphia Eagles 19-17. Last Week (3). The Giants offense looked bad other than two drives in the second half that resulted in touchdowns. An offensive pass interference by Ramses Barden screws them in the end as they were driving inside the Eagles 30 with under a minute remaining.
12.Denver Broncos (2-2) defeated Oakland Raiders 37-6. Last Week (N/R). The Broncos annihilate the Raiders behind an almost perfect Peyton Manning who goes 30-for-38 and passes for 338 yards and three touchdowns. The run game was good too as Willis McGahee runs for 119 yards and a touchdown. The defense was insanely good as well. An all around great game by Denver. Are they finally putting it all together?
